In couples counseling, our goal is to help clients develop strategies that promotes awareness, acceptance, expression, utilization, regulation and transformation of emotion by strengthening the self and creating new meaning. We also strive to help the clients identify and address the sub-personalities within each other's mental system that consist of the wounded parts that try to control and protect the person from the emotional pain. In addition, we also focus on modifying negative thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses associated with the psychological distress that is contributing to the discord in one's relationship. All 3 of these therapeutic modalities help the couple to navigate through their emotional pain and negative view of them self, others, and the world in an effort to create new meaning and lead a healthy life as one unit.
